Alumni Spotlight: Gabriel Platas ’21

Since graduating from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science), Gabriel Platas has transformed his passion for animal health into a career in veterinary medicine. In May 2026, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Texas A&M University, where he focused on rural and mixed animal medicine while also becoming Certified in Public Health (CPH). Gabriel credits TAMUK’s close-knit community, dedicated faculty, and hands-on learning opportunities for helping prepare him for veterinary school and his career. As a student, he was highly involved on campus through Delta Chi Fraternity and the Ronald E. McNair Undergraduate Research Program, experiences that strengthened his passion for lifelong learning and service. Now practicing as a rural veterinarian near Kingsville, Gabriel continues to give back as President of the Delta Chi Kingsville Chapter Alumni Board of Trustees and plans to support future generations of veterinarians and livestock professionals. This fall, he will begin pursuing a Master of Public Health in Veterinary Public Health as he works toward becoming a board-certified veterinarian in preventive medicine. Congratulations, Dr. Platas! We are proud to celebrate your accomplishments and the impact you are making! 💙💛
