Del Castillo is a cross-cultural power uniting music lovers through a cinematic celebration of sound that blends old-world culture with new-day instrumentation. Founded in Austin by brothers Rick and Mark del Castillo, the ensemble’s eclectic fusion of flamenco, rock, Latin, blues, and world music reflects their deep Texas roots. Often described as "classical Spanish speed-guitar" slathered in "high-drama vocals," their "dueling Spanish guitars" and Alex Ruiz’s passionate stage presence have earned praise from filmmakers Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Their music is featured in major films such as Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Alita: Battle Angel, The Green Ghost, Machete, and Sin City. For years, the group has performed in various configurations, ranging from an intimate trio to their original 5-6-piece full Latin rock band featuring heavy percussion. Their high-energy live shows weave together fresh-faced flamenco, innovative originals, and reimagined classics, performed with infectious enthusiasm. They offer workshops in Latin guitar styling for audiences ranging from middle school students to adults, in settings from classrooms to festival workshops. As a symbol of cross-cultural unity, Del Castillo continues to deliver passionate material that captures the heat of their Texas heritage, alongside legends Willie Nelson and Santana.
